2026 volvo s90

Volvo has officially taken the wraps off the 2025 S90 facelift, marking the second refresh for its premium flagship sedan. The updated S90 brings a host of visual and tech enhancements aimed at keeping it competitive in the global luxury sedan segment. While its India return remains uncertain, the model is set to debut in China first before rolling out to other international markets.

Design: A Sharper, More Premium Presence

The exterior of the 2025 S90 draws clear inspiration from the latest Volvo XC90 and the all-electric ES90, aligning the sedan with the brand’s evolving design language. Up front, the signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED daytime running lights now stretch to meet a refreshed grille that features new diagonal slats. The bumper looks sleeker, courtesy of newly integrated air curtains highlighted with a silver garnish.

While the side profile remains largely unchanged, fresh alloy wheel designs give it a subtle visual lift. At the rear, Volvo has replaced the old C-shaped tail-lamps with new T-shaped LED units that add a more contemporary flair. The number plate housing has also moved from the bumper to the boot lid, further streamlining the rear-end design.

Interior: Tech Upgrades Take Center Stage

Step inside the new S90 and you’ll notice a cleaner, more modern cabin anchored by an all-new 11.2-inch floating touchscreen – a notable upgrade from the previous 9.0-inch unit. Powered by updated software, the infotainment system now offers improved responsiveness and supports over-the-air updates for added convenience.

Volvo has also improved cabin insulation, aiming to enhance in-cabin refinement and reduce ambient noise for a more luxurious ride experience.

Powertrain: More Range, Greater Comfort

While Volvo hasn’t disclosed the full technical details just yet, it has confirmed that the updated S90 will continue to offer both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options. Notably, the PHEV variant now boasts a slightly extended electric-only range – up from 74km to 80km. Adaptive suspension has also been made standard across all variants, promising a more comfortable and composed ride.

Launch Timeline and Market Availability

The 2025 Volvo S90 will first launch in China by mid-year, with other global markets to follow shortly after. In India, Volvo had pulled the plug on the S90 a few years ago due to low demand, and while the facelift looks promising, there’s no official word yet on its return. For now, the S60 remains the only sedan in Volvo’s Indian portfolio.

Verdict: With its sleek new design, smarter interior, and improved efficiency, the 2025 S90 facelift is a well-rounded refresh that keeps Volvo’s flagship sedan relevant in a fast-evolving segment. Whether it returns to India or not, it’s certainly a strong statement in global markets.
